HYDROTHERAPY

Hydrotherapy Pool

The Hydrotherapy Pool is a component of our Rehabilitation Medicine program. A space for water-based exercise and physiotherapy, it is designed to reduce the chance of joint and muscle injury in patients with muscle weakness or knee pain, as well as to promote exercise among seniors and help athletes get back to performing at their best.

Our hydrotherapy program provides 1:1 rehabilitation in the pool with the aid of a wide range of equipment. These include a safety hoist to support patients with mobility impediments due to their weight and a hydraulic chair that can be wheeled into the pool to assist patients with walking restrictions. These equipment, coupled with water’s buoyancy, will help improve the patient’s balance and movement in the water. Hydrotherapy can be very beneficial in helping patients overcome rehabilitation limitations, especially when compared to land-based therapy, which carries the risk of causing more muscle pain.

“One-on-one, water-based physical therapy to assist in muscle and joint rehabilitation.”

Highlights

  • The pool is equipped with rehabilitation equipment to help patients improve their balance in a low-impact way, reducing limitations that exist in land-based rehab therapy.
  • The pool water is temperature-controlled to be suitable for water-based exercise, promote muscle and joint relaxation, reduce pain and increase blood circulation.
  • Our Hydrotherapy Pool provides 1:1 service under the close eye of a doctor, physiotherapist or sports scientist.

Suitability

  • Suitable for patients with severe muscle weakness due to an ischemic attack, a stroke, an acute neuromuscular disorder or a chronic disease.
  • Suitable for trauma patients who need walking exercises to preserve (regain?) mobility.
  • Suitable for seniors who need muscle rehabilitation to improve mobility problems.
  • Suitable for metabolic patients and those who want to lose weight.
  • Suitable for people who suffer from muscle pain, knee pain, joint pain, back pain, leg pain or neck pain, and especially suitable for those suffering from stress and work-related fatigue.

The 4m x 5m, 1.2m-deep pool is ideal for muscle and joint training as well as for patients’ rehab exercise. It is optimally lit and well ventilated by design. The water temperature can be adjusted to be similar to body temperature to promote a feeling of relaxation and comfort. The pool features a highly efficient cleaning and sterilization system, where water flows through a filter and is disinfected with chlorine and ozone. It also has a jet stream system to help with your exercise and muscle relaxation, as well as a temperature and pH level display. A safety hoist and other equipment have been installed to ensure safe and convenient patient transfers and training. Poolside therapy equipment include:

  • Floats for body, arm and leg support
  • Parallel bars to support your weight during your walking exercise
  • A hydraulic chair to facilitate entry and exit from the pool
  • A safety hoist to support patients getting in and out of the pool and ensure their safety in the water.
  • A physiotherapist is always on hand to provide close care.

Our patient rehabilitation program consists of one-on-one therapy sessions lasting 45-50 minutes. A physio doctor (professional physiotherapist) and specialist will assess your symptoms and design a customized program especially for you. After an initial 10-session course or one month of therapy, a follow-up will be performed and adjustments will be made to your program as needed.
